Cheers for Volunteers is a volunteer recognition dinner hosted by the Volunteer Center of Fond du Lac County, Inc. and sponsored by community businesses and organizations. Award recipients are recognized for their volunteer efforts in the local community and are awarded $1,000 each to donate to a Fond du Lac County charity of their choice.

Nominate someone for . . .

Carl W. Tonjes Volunteer Award

Recognizes a FDL area individual or couple who have made our community a better place to live through exemplary volunteerism.

Outstanding Board Volunteer Award

Recognizes a member of a nonprofit board for exemplary volunteerism to the organization as a board member.

Outstanding Service Club Volunteer Award

Recognizes a member of a service organization that demonstrates leadership and promotes the mission of the organization through volunteerism.

Outstanding Agency Volunteer Award

Recognizes an individual who has served as a volunteer within or for an agency and has made meaningful contributions to promote the mission of the agency.

Outstanding Rural Volunteer Award

Recognizes an individual who has served as a volunteer in a rural community and made meaningful contributions to the quality of life in their area.

Outstanding Senior Volunteer Award

Recognizes an individual over the age of 60 that has served as a volunteer and has made meaningful contributions to the quality of life in the area.

Rising Star Award

Recognizes an individual that is beginning to discover the meaning of volunteerism in the community. This individual could be a youth or adult who embraces the idea of taking their volunteer "spirit" to new heights.

Spirit of Compassion Award

Recognizes one whose volunteerism eases the burden of those without advocates. This individual works with the poor and vulnerable, especially women and children and creates a better environment and quality of life, thus providing "hope."

Submitting a Nomination

2008 Nominations have been received and reviewed. 2009 Applications will be available in February of 2009.

When submitting a nomination, please include a one-page summary to include the award information listed below, as well as completing the nomination form below. The nomination deadline for “Cheers for Volunteers 2008” was March 7, 2008.

Why are you nominating this person/couple/group?

Where does this person volunteer? If they volunteer with more than one organization, please include a statement from those agencies to show the extent of the volunteer efforts.

Explain how this person meets the award category for which they are being nominated.

Highlight the ways the nominee has impacted the community and why you believe this person/group/business should win an award.

Additional notes:

  • Persons can be nominated in more than 1 category if their volunteer efforts meet the criteria for more than one award. A separate nomination form and summary should be completed for each award category. A person will not be selected to win more than one award.
  • A selection committee from each award category reviews all nominations.
  • Awards are open to individuals/groups/businesses of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds
